How to Use Each Piece in a Screwdriver Set Like a Pro

The screwdriver is among the most important tools in every toolbox. There are many professions and situations where this tool is essential to perform specific tasks that involve tightening or loosening fasteners.

Most screwdrivers come in a set with interchangeable tips, which makes it possible to use for various screws. There are many types and each has a specific purpose. So, keeping a set handy is useful for homeowners and professionals alike.

Types of Screwdriver Tips

The many types of screwdriver heads are usually determined by how well the screw head matches the drive tip shape. However, other types are more application-specific or meant to be used in particular industries. Some of the screwdriver heads from the Tata Agrico 8-in-1 are detailed below.

Flat-head Screwdriver Tip

This kind of screwdriver head is labelled according to the tip’s size. As the name implies, it has a flat shape shaft tip with a single slot that engages with the slotted screw head only.  In most screwdriver sets, you get various sizes of the flat-head tip since it’s the most common—used for screws with a straight linear intrusion across the head.

Flat-head screwdriver tips are multi-purpose and can usually be applied for a range of tasks. They are best used for furniture assembly and light switch plate cover installation.

Additionally, there are two types according to application: cabinet and keystone. Cabinet tips are best for watch working, jewellery making, etc. The keystone type has a wider shaft, which makes them more applicable for woodworking.

Cross-Head Screwdriver Tip

Also known as the Phillip’s screwdriver, it is among the most common types. These tools are designed to fit Phillip’s screw heads, which have a cross-shaped recess. They were invented to deal with higher tension. They are commonly used in remodelling, carpentry and construction projects.

Torx Screwdriver Tip

A torx screwdriver tip has six rounded points that resemble a star. It fits into the screws or nuts and tolerates increased torque. This particular design ensures lower chances of the screw head getting stripped.

The torx screwdriver tip is generally used in automotive applications such as consumer electronics and wheel locks.

Extension Rod

A screw fell into a not-so-easy-to-access corner? This is where the screwdriver extension rod comes in. You attach the specified tip to the rod and extract the errant screw without strain or difficulty.
